On A Mission

From the beginning of Luke’s Gospel, we see that Jesus was not just another teacher or prophet. The angel Gabriel announced His birth as the Son of the Most High. Simeon and Anna recognized Him as the promised salvation. At His baptism, the heavens opened and God declared Jesus the beloved Son. And when Jesus stood in the synagogue and read from Isaiah, He boldly proclaimed that He had come to set the captives free.

Despite constant opposition, Jesus remained unwavering in His mission. He was on His way to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51)—where He knew suffering awaited Him—because that was the very heart of His mission: to save sinners through His death and resurrection. His love for His people, even those who rejected Him, drove Him forward.

Like the people of Jerusalem, we, too, have wandered. We have been rebellious, self-righteous, or lost in sin. Yet Jesus’ mission is to gather us to Himself, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. Nothing can stop Him—not the threats of rulers, not the betrayal of friends, not even death itself. His journey to Jerusalem was for us. His cross was for us. His resurrection was for us. And even now, He remains faithful, bringing us near to Himself. Indeed, “His steadfast love endures forever,” (Psalm 118:1).

In Christ,

Pastor Nick
